Businessman José García Costas, former president of Hijos de J. Barreras, has reached an agreement to transfer control of his shares in the company, 24.5%, to the Ritz Carlton shipping company, which thus assumes 100% of the shares of the Vigo shipyard that is in charge of building its luxury cruise ship, the Evrima.
Ritz Carlton had reached a transfer agreement with Pemex and Albacora, so it already owned 75% of the shares at this time, so with the acquisition of this last block of shares, it acquires total control of the company.
The luxury cruise line has a new management team and defined objectives, with its main priority being the timely completion of its luxury ship, the Evrima.
In an official statement, Douglas Prothero, CEO of The Ritz Carlton's shipbuilding division, said: “Our goal is to continue working and collaborating with the various government and financial administrations, while we design a new future and new opportunities for Hijos de J. Barreras, as well as for the many Galician suppliers who work with the shipyard.”.
