Marella Cruises announced yesterday the extension of its cruise suspension until June 30th and simultaneously announced that it will retire the Marella Celebration ahead of schedule. This is one of the cruise line's longest-serving and most beloved ships, having served for 15 years and welcomed half a million passengers.
Built at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in 1984 for Holland America Line as the MS Noordam, it was acquired by Thomson Cruises in 2005. This summer it was scheduled to be based in Dubrovnik, and in Cyprus and Dubai during the winter. The company, however, has not specified whether it will sell or scrap the ship.
