The cruise industry, one of the sectors affected by the current situation, has a key date on the calendar, with the aim of holding a meeting that will allow all stakeholders to boost cruise tourism and facilitate the economic recovery of the sector.
The Seatrade organization has its sights set on holding Seatrade Cruise Med in Malaga, scheduled for September 16-17, 2020. This would make it the first and most important global event in the sector this year, although they will remain attentive to the evolving situation and any changes that may occur. “Of course, the health and safety of attendees is our top priority, but we are optimistic that the global situation will have improved by then, and we are all excited to reconnect,” Seatrade added.
Meanwhile, the local Organizing Committee, made up of the Port of Malaga, the Tourism Department of the City Council, Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol and the Andalusian Regional Government, continues to work closely with the Seatrade organization to carry out the first meeting of the cruise industry, after the interruption caused by COVID-19.
The event continues to have the support of regional sponsors MedCruise (Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports), Global Ports Holding (parent company of Malaga Cruise Port, operator of the cruise terminals in Malaga), Puertos del Estado and City Sightseeing, in addition to the presence of Suncruise Andalucía (Association of Andalusian cruise ports).
New features: an expanded event
As it is the only international event that Seatrade will be able to hold this year, modifications have been made to give the entire global cruise community the opportunity to participate in this meeting, proposing the celebration of a larger event.
In this way, the meeting space will be expanded, with more exhibitors to encourage the participation of all the agents involved (shipping companies, tour operators, travel agents, among others); conferences focused on the analysis of the cruise sector in the face of a situation like the one currently being experienced will be added ; more networking spaces will be offered and, in addition, a greater presence of the top executives and directors of the shipping companies is expected
The Seatrade Cruise Med event will not only be an opportunity to position Malaga and the Andalusia region on the global cruise map for 2021, but also to demonstrate the strength of the port and destination as a safe territory, capable of hosting this major event. To this end, the necessary measures will be implemented at the event's various venues, with the aim of reinforcing health protections, guaranteeing hygiene, social distancing, and any other elements deemed essential at the time of the event.
Seatrade Cruise Med
, the international Mediterranean cruise fair and one of the most important in the sector, has been held biennially since 1998, in a different cruise destination each year.
It is a professional event organized by Seatrade Cruise EMEA and Asia Pacific, UBM, and consists of an exhibition accompanied by a series of conferences with professionals and experts from around the world.
