Hurtigruten, Norway's leading cruise line specializing in exploration voyages, has followed the advice of expert authorities, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI), the Cruise Lines International Association, other government agencies, and local health authorities in the areas where it operates. As such, Hurtigruten has implemented strict precautionary measures from the outset to prevent the spread of the virus and ensure the health and safety of its guests and crew members.
One of the company's core values is its motto, "You matter to us," which refers to the care, safety, and well-being of its guests, staff, and local communities, as well as its global role. Hurtigruten has announced that it has had a total of zero cases on board its ships and has voluntarily suspended all operations off the Norwegian coast until April 19 and all exploration voyages until May 28. The Norwegian company will therefore take all of its vessels out of service except for two, which have been offered to the Norwegian government for the transport of supplies and goods to local communities along the Norwegian coast.
Hurtigruten also offers a flexible and risk-free booking change policy. For all travelers with bookings up to September 30, 2020, the company offers the possibility of making a free change, thanks to the "Hurtigruten Future Cruise" voucher, to travel from July 1 to December 31, 2021 on any Hurtigruten itinerary, whether expedition cruise or Norwegian coastal cruise, with a 10% discount.
Daniel Skjeldam, CEO of Hurtigruten, states: “Temporarily suspending operations was a difficult decision to make, as it affects us all: customers, onboard staff, offices worldwide, the communities we visit, both small and large, suppliers… In short, everyone who depends on us. I firmly believe it is a responsible decision in the face of the extraordinary crisis we are facing globally.”
Finally, Skjeldam continued his remarks, expressing his confidence that this was the right and most responsible decision. He also assured travelers that Hurtigruten would resume operations as soon as they were able to offer an unforgettable journey backed by their proven track record. He also expressed his gratitude to all guests for their support and trust.
