The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has once again published aggregated data on the outbound market figures, information that provides added value to both specialized travel agents and the Spanish cruise market itself.

According to CLIA Spain, during the first nine months of 2019, 448,200 Spaniards enjoyed a cruise as a holiday option, which represents an increase of 7.3% compared to the first half of 2018 (417,600 cruise passengers).
Regarding cruise duration, Spanish cruise passengers spent an average of 7.3 days on board during the first nine months of 2019, the same amount of time as during the same period in 2018. One-week vacations are therefore consolidating their position as the favorite option for cruise passengers from our country; 88% of Spanish passengers chose 7-day trips as their vacation option.

Furthermore, according to data released today by CLIA Spain, the average Spanish cruise passenger in 2019 was 45 years old, with the most common age range being between 50 and 59 years old.
From January to September 2019, Western Mediterranean cruises were the most popular among the Spanish market, chosen by 217,000 passengers, followed by the Eastern Mediterranean with 89,000 passengers, the Baltic and Northern Europe with 83,000 passengers, the Caribbean/Bahamas with 21,000, Africa and the Middle East with 14,000 and the Canary Islands with 10,000.

According to Alfredo Serrano, National Director of CLIA Spain, “the data from January to September 2019 indicates the strong performance of our market, which grew by 7.3%, compared to only 1.7% growth in the same period of the previous year. undoubtedly remains one of the most popular holiday options for Spaniards, and its potential is still enormous. We are confident that the 2019 figures will show a very positive outcome and passenger numbers higher than those of 2018, when 530,000 Spanish passengers were recorded (CLIA European Market Report 2018).”
