Pullmantur Cruises takes travel agents on board thanks to virtual reality

In its commitment to innovation, Pullmantur Cruises - the only cruise line in the market that brings the Spanish lifestyle to the way of traveling on a cruise - is making Oculus glasses, a new tool to showcase the facilities on board and explore some of its main destinations through virtual reality.

These, distributed between the sales team in Spain and Colombia, have been developed in collaboration with New Horizons VR - a producer of ultra-immersive content for virtual reality - and allow travel agents to be transported on board and create an almost real experience.

In this way, in just a few minutes and without leaving the office, agents will be able to gain a more realistic understanding of the product, including the facilities and some of the shipping company's destinations, thus helping them to better advise and guide their clients.

As stated by Richard J. Vogel, President & CEO of Pullmantur Cruises, “we are firmly committed to training travel agents, our main business partners, always looking for innovative and dynamic ways to bring them closer to our product and the improvements we make.”

In this sense, “we believe that with these glasses we manage to simulate an almost real environment and we get, especially those who have not yet had the opportunity to get on board, to get to know us better; something that will also help them in advising the end customer,” adds Vogel.

“In fact,” Vogel concludes, “after the positive reception of this tool, we hope to continue developing it in the coming months.”.

Specifically, in this first phase, the shipping company has brought its ship Sovereign, allowing agents to explore the different spaces (cabins, deck, lounges, etc.), and some of its main itineraries with its most characteristic places: 5 Wonders of the Mediterranean with the Park Guell in Barcelona and the Trevi Fountain in Rome; Secret Corners of the Mediterranean with the colorful houses of the fishing village of Portofino and the Canary Islands and Madeira with the summit of Teide.

Cutting-edge technology

To achieve the immersive effect of the Oculus glasses, a team of specialists and technicians traveled to the Sovereign ship and to different destinations with 360-degree cameras, resolutions of up to 16k and stereoscopy, which allow the collection of three-dimensional visual information and create the illusion of depth.

This innovative recording method, after a complex post-production process, allows the creation of immersive videos with broadcast quality that, as the shipping company has done, momentarily transport anyone using the glasses to a scenario very close to reality.
