Costa Cruises is preparing to unveil its new and innovative flagship, the Costa Smeralda. The Italian company has prepared a comprehensive schedule of unique experiences to showcase the new addition to its strategic partners, travel agents. These experiences will take place from the ship's first arrival in Barcelona until after the Costa Smeralda's inaugural itinerary, which will depart from Savona on December 21, 2019.
Travel agencies will have the exclusive opportunity to visit the Costa Smeralda on three separate occasions: December 18 in Barcelona, December 19 in Marseille, and December 20 in Savona. During these visits, guests will enjoy a complete gastronomic and sensory experience aboard the ship, designed to surprise and be a symbol of innovation in every aspect, from the interior design, led by Adam D. Tihany and four prestigious architectural firms, to the smallest details.
Between January and April 2020, Costa's strategic partners will be able to enjoy 3 and 4 day cruises specifically designed to let them experience the unique offerings of the Costa Smeralda, a ship designed to mark a turning point in the cruise industry.
Costa Smeralda is the result of a unique and multifaceted creative project designed to represent the best of Italy. Furthermore, Italian design will play a leading role on board thanks to the CoDe – Costa Design Museum, the first museum on a cruise ship.
Costa Cruises' new flagship is the company's first cruise ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas, both in port and at sea. This fuel guarantees a low environmental impact, as it almost completely eliminates particulate and sulfuric acid emissions, while also significantly reducing nitrogen oxide and CO2 emissions.
The Costa Smeralda's maiden voyage will depart from Savona on December 21st and travel the Western Mediterranean for a week, calling at Savona, Marseille, Barcelona, Palma, Civitavecchia, and La Spezia. During the 2020 summer season, the itinerary will visit Savona, Marseille, Barcelona, Palma, Cagliari, and Civitavecchia. For the 2020/21 winter season, the ship will maintain this itinerary, replacing Cagliari with Palermo.
