MSC Cruises has today revealed new details of the two Cirque du Soleil at Sea shows (COSMOS and EXENTRICKS) that can be seen exclusively on board MSC Grandiosa.
In COSMOS: “A Journey to the Incredible,” guests will experience a breathtaking adventure through the galaxy with a courageous astronaut on a quest for self-discovery. Meanwhile, passengers who choose EXENTRICKS: “Expect the Unexpected”will be amazed by the spiritual power this show conveys.
Cirque du Soleil at Sea is an original production from the Cirque du Soleil team, which constantly seeks new creative approaches, reinvents its processes, challenges the status quo, and explores new territories to create unique experiences. In this case, the collaboration with MSC Cruises brings its shows to an international audience who can also enjoy the performances while sailing on the high seas. Something unparalleled to date.

In COSMOS , three artists will use a unique acrobatic apparatus developed specifically for this show. The aerial specialists will fly across the rotating stage of the Carousel Lounge on moving ropes that represent rings around the planets. All of this, combined with incredible flips and twists, will allow MSC Cruises passengers to immerse themselves in the fantastic world of COSMOS.
As another major innovation, for the first time a Cirque du Soleil at Sea show (in this case, EXENTRICKS) will place the audience at the heart of the performance, inviting them to play a fundamental role in the story. - EXENTRICKS, “Expect the Unexpected”: Led by a colorful cast of eccentric characters, this audiovisual show will transport passengers to an atopic theatrical world with astonishing acrobatics and staging that will bring out everyone's most eccentric side. This spectacle is inspired by the essence of circus arts, featuring large, colorful characters brimming with style, personality, and amazing skills. Meanwhile, the characters' energy and the show's intensity draw inspiration from high-voltage pop culture fashion.
The Carousel Lounge is a specially constructed entertainment venue designed to accommodate just over 400 passengers per show. It is undoubtedly one of the most intimate spaces for any Cirque du Soleil production. This space was specifically designed to meet the needs of the artists and to bring passengers closer to a spectacular display of acrobatics and artistic artistry.
For both shows, the most advanced technology has been chosen. Specifically, on the MSC Grandiosa, the addition of 80 kinetic LED spheres creates a wide variety of visual effects, which in turn transforms the atmosphere of the Carousel Lounge at specific moments during the performances. The moving LED lights extend throughout the space to provide depth and a visual backdrop for the audience seated on the other side of the room.
The 360° stage, which gives the show its name, rotates like a carousel with a special mechanism to make the aerial acrobatics even more impressive. For MSC Grandiosa, the Cirque du Soleil design team sought a way to give more prominence to performances on stage, so they incorporated a new 2-meter lift in the center of the existing rotating table to raise the artist above the stage. This new lift will be used during the juggling act in COSMOS and the contortion act in EXENTRICKS.
RESERVATION INFORMATION
The new shows are part of MSC Cruises' long-term partnership with world-leading entertainment company Cirque du Soleil, designed to deliver a truly unique onboard entertainment experience. A total of eight original shows will be created exclusively for the Meraviglia-class ships. MSC Meraviglia hosts VIAGGGIO and SONOR, while MSC Bellissima hosts SYMA and VARÉLIA. These new shows will premiere on MSC Grandiosa starting in November of this year, and work is already underway on the two shows for MSC Virtuosa ahead of its launch in October 2020.
Tickets for Cirque du Soleil at Sea can be booked before your cruise at a special discount or purchased on board at the regular price. Passengers can choose to enjoy a three-course meal served before the show (€35) or opt for a special cocktail (€15) and enjoy the pre-show, which begins 30 minutes before the start of the Cirque du Soleil at Sea performance.
