Due to the success of its new Polar 6 Class ship, Hondius, Oceanwide Expeditions has announced an order for a sister ship to be named Janssonius, which will be ready in October 2021.
It will have a capacity for 174 passengers and will also be a Polar Class 6 vessel, enabling travel to the Arctic, Antarctica, and other polar regions. It will feature a protected Zodiac boarding area and two gangways to facilitate embarkation and disembarkation, as well as advanced dynamic positioning systems to remain stationary without anchoring.
One of the decks will be dedicated to the observation lounge with a separate presentation room. Six suites will feature balconies, as well as eight upper cabins. The ship will measure 107 meters in length and 17.6 meters in beam, and will incorporate a full range of technological advancements to reduce its environmental impact, such as LED lighting, biodegradable paints and lubricants, and heat recovery for energy.
It will be built in the Croatian shipyards of Brodosplit.
