The SeaDream Innovation is the world's most advanced hybrid vessel currently under construction, destined to sail all seven continents. SeaDream has received a $1.8 million grant from Enova, an organization within Norway's Ministry of Climate and Environment responsible for promoting environmentally responsible energy production and consumption, to develop this revolutionary ship. Enova strongly supports SeaDream and its new megayacht given its focus on sustainable energy and climate technologies.

SeaDream Innovation will be equipped with a large battery pack of approximately 4 MWh, enabling silent, emission-free cruising for up to three hours without disturbing the surrounding wildlife. The hybrid system will reduce local emissions by supporting the diesel generators during peak hours, thus lowering fuel consumption. Thanks to this system, the yacht will be able to navigate sensitive areas such as the Norwegian Fjords and along the Arctic ice edge. The batteries also provide an enhanced safety feature, acting as a backup in the event of an engine failure.
“Batteries have entered the maritime sector, but so far, there have been few practical experiences, especially on cruise ships,” said Enova CEO Nils Kristian Nakstad. “When it comes to generating energy from excess heat, the land-based industry has shown it’s possible, but at sea, those solutions have seen very little use. We depend on more people developing and using these technologies that the world needs.”
The SeaDream Innovation will install a system that converts excess heat from the engines into electricity. This will be able to produce up to 150 kW of power, which would otherwise be wasted energy, thus reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
In ports where it is available, the SeaDream Innovation will be able to connect to land-based electrical grids using a multi-voltage connection, reducing pollution anywhere in the world.

The mega yacht has four modern diesel engines and a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) to the most stringent IMO regulations, thus meeting MARPOL Tier III specifications. The SeaDream Innovation will be equipped with two azipods, providing maximum efficiency and maneuverability. Furthermore, it will have the highest Polar Class rating for navigating ice-bound areas, with a PC6 classification.
