Pullmantur Cruises – the only cruise line on the market that brings the Spanish lifestyle to the way of traveling on a cruise – has entrusted young designers with the creation of its crew's next uniforms.

Thus, the company has joined forces with the European Design Institute (IED) and Ad Talent, the platform dedicated to discovering, supporting, and promoting emerging designers, to launch a competition among alumni of the IED's Master's in Fashion Design. This competition has the renowned Spanish designer Juanjo Oliva as its patron.
In this context, students must present their proposal for what the uniforms of the selected positions , which bring together the largest number of professionals on board: buffet, bar and restaurant waiters; cabin assistant and excursion, photography and entertainment staff.
In these micro collections, young talents have to combine the design of current and timeless garments – that fit the different physiologies that coexist on board – with the durability and functionality that this type of workwear demands.
According to Pullmantur Cruises President & CEO Richard J. Vogel, “we have been working for months to further improve our product, introducing new features in order to intensify our Spanish DNA and offer a more attractive proposition to our passengers.”
In this context, “and knowing that the crew uniforms – our main ambassadors – are a key element and that their image had to be aligned with our product, we looked for a different way to renew them; that is why we turned to these great design talents to participate and support their creation,” he explains.
Meanwhile, regarding the work the participants are doing, Vogel notes: “I’ve been fortunate enough to see their progress firsthand, and I can only express my sincere gratitude for their dedication, the quality of their work, and the passion they’re putting into it.” “I’m absolutely convinced that the jury members will have a very difficult time choosing just one proposal,” Vogel concludes.
After a first elimination phase held on March 15, the finalist students are: Natalia Pestaña, Ada Björg, Ceren Kosker, Rocío Muñoz and Iria López.
They are all receiving mentoring from relevant professionals in the fashion world such as the designer Miguel Becer, creative director of the Mané Mané brand; the specialist in workwear design, María Ruano, and Juanjo Oliva.
The winner will be announced in May and will be chosen by a jury led by Juanjo Oliva and composed of the President & CEO of Pullmantur Cruises; representatives of IED Madrid; Ad Talent as well as renowned professionals related to the world of fashion and tourism.
The promising young talent will enjoy a three-month scholarship at Juanjo Oliva's sewing workshop and a cruise for two on 'Dubai and Legends of Arabia'. This itinerary is part of Pullmantur Cruises Exclusive Destinations: Dreams that become journeys.
