Princess Cruises and the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, have just confirmed the addition of two new state-of-the-art ships to the fleet, scheduled for delivery in late 2023 and spring 2025, respectively. With a tonnage of 175,000 tons, these are the largest vessels ever built in Italy. This announcement follows the initial signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties in July 2018.
Following a cutting-edge design and with a capacity of approximately 4,300 passengers, they will be the first Princess ships to run on liquefied natural gas fuel; the cleanest and most environmentally friendly supply technology in the entire cruise industry, capable of significantly reducing emissions and diesel fuel use.
According to Jan Swartz, President of Princess Cruises, “Princess continues its global growth with the addition of new ships to our fleet, which will continue to be built at our trusted shipyard, Fincantieri, which has demonstrated its expertise and know-how in creating state-of-the-art vessels for decades.” She added, “It is even more exciting to know that these two ships are already being designed to include our Medallion Class platform, which will operate with OceanMedallion, the most advanced mobile device in the hospitality industry.”
On the other hand, Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono stated during the announcement that “this is, once again, the result of the trust the market places in us, which allows us to look to the future with ambition. This highlights our excellent work, always focused on innovation, thanks to which we have been able to offer our client an unprecedented proposition, not only in terms of size. We are also firmly convinced that a new class of ships, captained by Princess Cruises, one of the largest brands in the Carnival Group, is the best possible foundation for this promising project. In fact, we have received orders for 21 ships for Princess, another unprecedented figure in our industry.”
