Guests aboard Silversea's Tale of Tales World Cruise 2019 continue to enjoy a wide variety of experiences, including onboard and shore events with fascinating readings and talks by the "Tale Tallers." Pico Lyer, Saroo Brierley, and Harold Koda have already participated in some of the Tale of Tales legs, offering inspiring talks, mingling with passengers, and contributing to the Tale of Tales anthology. Currently, Laksmi Pamuntjak is aboard the Silver Whisper, sailing the Bali-Tokyo leg, where passengers are enjoying her engaging company while traveling in ultimate comfort.
Pico Iyer was the first to join the Tale of Tales World Cruise 2019, embarking in San Francisco at the start of the voyage and sailing to Papeete, Tahiti. Hailed by some as the greatest living travel writer, Pico Iyer delivered a reading entitled “The World We Seldom See,” adapted from a TED Talk. The reading was followed by a Q&A session, encouraging interaction with the guests. A relaxed social event took place in the Panorama Lounge, where guests could mingle with Iyer while enjoying delicious cocktails.
The next to board the train between Tahiti and Sydney was tale teller Saroo Brierley, who shared his childhood experiences with the passengers. A natural storyteller, Brierley boarded a train in India at the age of five and was separated from his family for two and a half decades. After writing a novel about his story, Brierley's incredible tale was adapted into the Oscar-nominated film, Lion. Passengers were captivated by the visceral story of the Tale of Tellers and had the opportunity to learn more during a question-and-answer session. Afterward, the film was screened in the Silver Whisper, and travelers were able to share their impressions with Brierley. A book signing also took place.
Embarking on the World Cruise from Sydney to Bali, Tale Teller Harold Koda delighted guests with a reading entitled “Inconstant Beauty: Allure Across Cultures” in the Venetian Lounge. The fashion scholar enlightened guests on how we communicate through fashion and provided global examples before engaging with them. The social event took place in the Panorama Lounge, where guests had the opportunity to meet Koda in person in a relaxed atmosphere. Following the event, the Tale Teller, along with the travelers, the captain, and senior officers, enjoyed a tasting of the exquisite cuisine from the various destinations.
Tale Teller Laksmi Pamuntjak embarked in Bali and is currently aboard Silver Whisper. Pamuntjak, an award-winning novelist, poet, food writer, and successful journalist, shared her knowledge of poetry, history, and the sea in a talk that the guests thoroughly enjoyed. They also had the opportunity to meet her personally after the event.
Soon to join the Silver Whisper for the Tale of Tales World Cruise 2019 are Steve McCurry, Jeremiah Tower, Paul Theroux, Sophy Roberts, and Tahir Shah, who will share their experience and knowledge with Silversea travelers to enrich their stay on board the cruise ship.
In addition to a superb pre-cruise gala dinner, Silversea guests enjoy wonderful experiences as part of an immersive learning program. Whether aboard the Silver Whisper or at their destinations, travelers witness cultural traditions that reflect the authentic wonders of the world. In the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, local performers presented an indigenous show in their traditional costumes and attire. The program also included the iconic Aparima and Haka dances. At the Museum of Tahiti, another traditional performance, "Greeting the Tahitian Gods," showcased the talent of the actors. Finally, at the renowned Sydney Opera House, passengers were treated to a performance of La Bohème.
