(Monaco – December 19, 2018) Silversea announces plans for the second refurbishment of the Silver Wind, completing the major refurbishment project that began in December 2018. This second phase, during which the ship will be in dry dock throughout the summer of 2020, will transform the Silver Wind into a polar-cruising vessel and implement a series of interior upgrades, enhancing its versatility. These improvements will enable the Silver Wind to offer classic and expedition with maximum comfort, as well as a wider range of experiences.
This second extensive refurbishment of the Silver Wind, commencing in August 2020, is part of Project Invictus, a long-term plan to expand and enhance Silversea's already luxurious fleet. The ship will benefit from a reinforced hull for polar navigation, new state-of-the-art equipment enabling it to navigate the most remote regions, and a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks allowing passengers to take excursions and explore the area from the water. In addition, the ship's comfort and Silversea's signature luxury features will be enhanced: all suites will be refurbished; the Spa & Salon will be completely renovated; the reception and atrium will be updated; and further improvements will be made to La Dame and La Terrazza restaurants and the main bar, as well as the observation lounge, Panorama Lounge, pool bar, public restrooms, and theater, among other spaces. The Silver Wind, which can accommodate an intimate number of passengers (254), retains the small-vessel philosophy and will offer higher space ratios, a greater crew/guest ratio, and more superior suites, among other improvements.
The Silver Wind will continue to bring guests closer to the authentic beauty of the world's most iconic destinations, including the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. In the Caribbean, the ship will continue to visit renowned ports such as San Juan, Barbados, and St. Barthélemy, while its intimate size will also allow it to discover smaller ports like Bequia, Anguilla, and Les Saintes. Mediterranean favorites such as Venice, Monte Carlo, and Barcelona will also continue to be featured on the ship's itineraries, as well as more secluded destinations like Syros, Mljet, and Antibes.
The Silver Wind will also travel to extraordinary and exceptional destinations, including the Arctic and Antarctic. The ship will resume voyages on November 10, 2020, beginning its inaugural season in Antarctica. Highlights of these voyages include:
- WI201121014 – Departing from Ushuaia on November 21, 2020, on a 15-day round-trip voyage, the Silver Wind will spend a day at sea before visiting the Falkland Islands, the Drake Passage, the Antarctic Strait, the Antarctic Peninsula, and the South Shetland Islands, before returning to Ushuaia via the Drake Passage. The ship’s inaugural Antarctic voyage will offer a host of unforgettable experiences: in addition to penguins, seals, and several rare bird species, guests will have the opportunity to observe whales in their natural habitat. Zodiac and kayak tours led by Silversea’s expedition team will further enhance the experience.
- WI201205014: The Silver Wind will follow the same itinerary from December 5, 2020, returning to Ushuaia on December 19. The expedition will also enhance and enrich the experience with a variety of lectures, workshops, and immersive shore excursions. The 15-day round trip will offer an unforgettable journey to the southernmost continent in maximum comfort.
During the 2018 refurbishment, the Silver Wind 's interior public spaces, such as the Show Lounge, restaurant, conference and games room, and library, were completely renovated. New carpeting was installed throughout the ship, including the corridors. Outside, the decks were refurbished, and all the outdoor furniture was replaced with new pieces.

The announcement of the Silver Wind follows the news that Silversea Cruises has signed agreements to build three new ultra-luxury ships. Guests will also be able to enjoy all these improvements on the new Silversea fleet.
