Miami, December 13 – Carnival Cruise Line has announced that its newest ship, the Mardi Gras, which will debut in 2020, will have a roller coaster on the outside deck.
Built by Maurer Rides, from Munich, BOLT™: Ultimate Sea Coaster™ will be an adrenaline rush with 250 meters of twists, turns and drops reaching a speed of 64 km/h.
Taking cruise innovation to new limits, BOLT will be an electric roller coaster that will allow two passengers to ride in a motorcycle-shaped vehicle to enjoy a track 57 meters above sea level, with fantastic 360º views.
BOLT will begin with a launch where riders will experience acceleration similar to that of a powerful car and will culminate in a breathtaking loop around Carnival's iconic smokestack. The speed reached will be visible upon exiting the ride, and of course, there will be photos of the riders. Since riders choose their own speed, each loop will be unique.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said that BOLT is the cornerstone of the innovations and facilities designed for Mardi Gras.
The Mardi Gras will be based at Port Canaveral, Florida, with its new state-of-the-art cruise terminal. Itinerary information will be revealed next month, along with additional details about the ship. A second XL-class ship will begin construction in 2020 and is expected to be ready in 2022 to commemorate Carnival Cruise Line's 50th anniversary.
