Vigo, October 30, 2018. The Port of Vigo received the inaugural visit of the ship Le Champlain. An exclusive cruise ship belonging to the French shipping company Le Ponant, it chose the calm and safe waters of the Vigo estuary as a stop on its inaugural route through the treasures of the Atlantic coast.
Having sailed from Pasajes, Le Champlain arrived in Vigo at 8:30 a.m. and is scheduled to depart for Leixões at 8:00 p.m. During its stay in Vigo, it carried a total of 161 passengers, mostly French.
According to the cruise line's website, Le Champlain boasts innovative and environmentally friendly equipment, elegantly designed cabins, spacious suites with large windows, and living areas that open to the outside. In short, it's a new, limited-capacity yacht with only 92 cabins and suites, offering a truly unique cruising experience.
Le Champlain is the second ship in a new series that remains true to the spirit of Ponant, with a unique atmosphere that is the hallmark of this cruise line: a subtle combination of refinement, intimacy and comfort.

French gastronomy
As for the culinary offerings, given its essential role in French culture, gastronomy will naturally take center stage on board this new ship. At the rear of Deck 4, you'll find a 260-square-meter panoramic restaurant that can accommodate all your passengers in a single sitting. Additionally, on Deck 3, in a relaxed atmosphere, an open-air grill serves grilled meats with a variety of salads and desserts.
Le Champlain boasts numerous public areas designed and equipped to cater to all passenger needs while preserving individual privacy. Highlights include its 140 m² reception area, a new height-adjustable hydraulic platform that facilitates easier boarding than any other cruise ship, simplifies the embarkation and disembarkation of expedition Zodiacs, and provides easier access to the sea for swimming and various water sports such as kayaking and paddleboarding.
Once on deck, the passenger has at his disposal a swimming pool with panoramic views, equipped with a counter-current swimming system, a pleasant solarium, a bar and an open-air lounge.
Le Champlain also has a main lounge of 200 m² capable of accommodating all passengers and a theater with a capacity for 188, equipped with the latest sound and lighting technology and an LED wall for the projection of high-resolution images and videos.
The ship is named after the French explorer Samuel de Champlain and is the second in a series of six sister ships. It is 131 meters long and caters to a high-end clientele. It is an exclusive, adults-only vessel with personalized service.
