Valencia, September 18, 2018 – The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) will attend Seatrade Cruise Med 2018, the most important European event for the cruise industry, which will be held this year from September 19 to 20 in Lisbon, Portugal. During this edition, Valenciaport and Turismo Valencia will present Valencia's offerings as a cruise port and destination under the slogan "Valencia Goes Green.".
During the fair, Mar Chao, Commercial and Business Development Director of the APV, and Francesca Antonelli, Head of Marketing, will maintain a full schedule of meetings with shipping company executives from around the world and will participate in the various cruise-related events.
Cruise deals from Valencia
The Port Authority has finalized a work agenda during the event to present current and prospective clients with a diverse range of sustainable excursions available both in Valencia and the surrounding region. There are numerous opportunities to visit Valencia and enjoy a pleasant experience sustainably, while also contributing to the preservation of the local natural environment and traditional customs.
Specifically, the fair will showcase the extensive network of bike lanes that allow cyclists to safely explore the historic center, the City of Arts and Sciences area, and the beaches on two wheels. The offerings also include activities such as dynamic water sports (flyboarding or jet skiing) and excursions to the Albufera Natural Park, a 20,000-hectare Mediterranean ecosystem with pristine beaches, dunes, forests, rice paddies, and a large lake where you can enjoy boat trips and discover the local wildlife. Other options already included in the city's wide range of cruise offerings include a bicycle tour to a tiger nut plantation, where tourists can learn about the production of Valencia's most famous drink, horchata.
Profile of cruise passengers in the port of Valencia
New this year at Seatrade Cruise Med 2018, Valenciaport will present the results of a study conducted by the Valenciaport Foundation for the Port Authority of Valencia. This study outlines the main characteristics of the cruise passenger profile at the Port of Valencia. Based on a sample of 351,049 passengers who used the Port of Valencia between January and December 2017, the study indicates that 52.4% are women and 47.4% are men, with an average age of 52. By country of origin: 19.3% come from Italy; 19% from Germany; 17.9% from the United Kingdom; 10.6% from France; and 5.8% from Spain.
The study also develops a profile of the EPL cruise passenger, corresponding to those cruise passengers in the Expedition, Premium, and Luxury segments. In this case, the data provided places the average age at 59 years and reflects the predominance of women (50.9%) over men (48.4%). By country of origin: 31.8% come from the United States; 24.6% from the United Kingdom; 21.6% from Germany; and 5.1% from Canada.
