MedCruise, the Mediterranean cruise port association, and CLIA Europe (Cruise Lines International Association, Europe) have signed a collaboration agreement in Brussels.
Both organizations will work together to promote the cruise industry in the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Red Sea, Adriatic, North Africa, and the Near Atlantic. Through the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding, they will coordinate to present a unified position supporting the sustainable growth of the cruise industry to European Union organizations, national governments, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
Kyriakos Anastassiadis, President of CLIA Europe, said: “We are pleased to be working closely with MedCruise. We both have different areas of expertise and represent many members, so this agreement will improve our operations.”.
Airam Díaz Pastor, President of MedCruise, commented: “Cruise lines are extremely important to MedCruise members, and it is vital to work together. Today we are demonstrating our commitment to building a stronger relationship between ports and cruise lines, which will help us both to increase the contribution of cruises in the region, representing a 15.8% share of all cruises worldwide.”
Under the new agreement, MedCruise and CLIA Europe will share statistics, studies, and reports of mutual interest on industry trends, shipbuilding, and new technologies; collaborate on professional development; and create new industry studies. A committee will be formed with members from both organizations.
