Santander 23-04-18. The cruise ship “Hamburg”, consigned by BERGÉ, docked this morning at the Maliaño Wharf in what was its first stop in the port of Santander with 300 passengers, mostly German, on board.
To celebrate his visit to the city, the president of the APS, Jaime González, presented Captain Pedro Dias with a commemorative plaque.
The cruise ship, which measures 144 meters in length, entered the port at noon, coming from La Coruña and is scheduled to leave at seven in the evening bound for the port of Bordeaux.
Some of the cruise passengers are taking a panoramic tour of the city to see its main attractions, while others are enjoying the towns of Comillas and Santillana del Mar.
As is the case at every stop, and within the framework of the institutional collaboration required by this type of traffic, the City Council collaborates by providing maps and tourist information to passengers, while the Regional Government keeps its tourist information office, located in the Maritime Station, open between 12:15 and 18:00 to meet the demand for information.
The president of the Port Authority of Santander, Jaime González, has highlighted the importance of cruise tourism to the local economy and emphasized that all levels of government are joining forces and undertaking various joint initiatives to attract cruise traffic to the Autonomous Community. These initiatives include training workshops for the service sector, participation in trade fairs, and market research.
On the other hand, the Braemar, Le Boreal and Britannia are scheduled to visit the port facilities this year in May; the Britannia again in July; the Sea Cloud II in August and the Laperouse in September.
