In a traditional maritime delivery ceremony held at the Italian shipyard of Fincantieri, Carnival Cruise Line officially took possession of the new Carnival Horizon, a 133,500 gross registered tonnage and the 26th ship in its fleet.
The ship, carrying 3,954 passengers, departed for Barcelona, where it began its maiden voyage on April 2nd with a 13-day inaugural route, the first of four from the Spanish port. The ship will then cross the Atlantic Ocean to arrive in New York on May 23rd, where a christening gala will be held, with Grammy Award-winning actress Queen Latifah serving as godmother.
After a season of four- and eight-day cruises from New York, the ship will head towards Miami for year-round operations of six- and eight-day Caribbean cruises, beginning on September 22, 2018.
The Carnival Horizon offers unique and outstanding facilities, such as the WaterWorks water park, the company's first teppanyaki restaurant, Bonsai Teppanyaki, and the Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse|Brewhouse grill, which will serve popular barbecue dishes from chef Guy Fieri as well as beers created on board.
This is the second Vista-class ship, and it offers innovations such as the SkyRide suspended bicycle circuit, an IMAX theater, the Havana area with tropical-inspired staterooms and its own pool, and Family Harbor with staterooms specially designed for families. As its name suggests, the Carnival Horizon also features outdoor spaces where guests can enjoy fine dining at restaurants like Bonsai Sushi, Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, and Library Bar.
