During the summer season, which runs from June to September, the Port of Malaga expects to receive approximately 200,000 passengers on 97 calls, representing a 21% increase compared to the same period last year.
The upward trend in this activity during the summer breaks with the seasonality of cruise tourism in the capital, whose figures are traditionally significant during the spring and autumn seasons.
The decision by British company Thomson Cruises and Greek shipping company Variety Cruises to choose Malaga as a home port is a boost for cruise traffic during the summer: a total of 28 calls are expected with the start and/or end of the itinerary in the Malaga capital with some 70,000 passengers based there (30,000 more than in the same period of the previous year), which represents 35% of the total cruise passengers expected during the summer season.
In addition, four cruise ships will visit the port for the first time between June and September. All belong to exclusive cruise lines that are increasingly choosing Málaga as part of their itineraries due to the port's proximity to the city and the destination's gastronomic, cultural, commercial, and leisure offerings. Following the arrival of the Panorama II (which makes regular calls at the port during the summer) and the Seabourne Encore, the Silver Muse is scheduled to visit on Sunday, August 27, and the Astoria in September.
Finally, it is worth noting that the day with the highest influx will be September 28th, with the arrival of 4 cruise ships and a movement of approximately 8,000 cruise passengers (according to their maximum capacities), marking the beginning of the autumn season at the Port of Malaga.
