In 2015, 6.2 million passengers embarked on cruises in the European Union, surpassing the previous year's figure. According to data published by the European statistical office Eurostat, Spain was the second most popular cruise destination in the EU in 2015, second only to Italy, which led with 2.2 million passengers (35% of the total). Spain accounted for 1.2 million passengers, representing 19% of the total.
After Italy and Spain comes the United Kingdom, with almost 1 million passengers and 16% of the total, with these three countries accounting for 70% of the total. Next are Germany, France, Belgium, and Greece, which together make up the remaining 30%.
As for departures from the ports, the order would be as follows: first Southampton with 829,000 passengers, second the Port of Barcelona with 685,000 passengers and Venice with 657,000.
