According to information received from the Port Authorities, the strike participation rate is around 98.5% across the entire port system.
Given the operators' awareness of the strike, they rescheduled their shifts, significantly reducing the number of workers called in for today. Excluding those assigned to minimum services, the number of appointments totaled 484, approximately 80% less than a normal shift.
It should be noted that a large number of ports, including the most important ones - Barcelona, Algeciras, Alicante, Almería, Balearic Islands, Cádiz, Motril, Málaga, Melilla, Vigo, Vilagarcía, Tenerife, Santander and Seville - have not appointed any staff, except for minimum services.
Likewise, in the ports as a whole, 571 staff members have been appointed, of whom 477 have followed the strike. In the special shifts, 89 workers have been appointed, with a 100% participation rate in the strike, excluding minimum services (4).
It should be noted that, due to rescheduling by operators, there is a low level of activity in the delivery and receipt of goods by truck, and consequently there is no incident in road traffic.
In general, the mandated minimum services are being met. 87 workers have been assigned to minimum services on regular shifts and 4 on special shifts.
In the time that has passed since this strike began, between yesterday Wednesday and today, it is already possible to report on the diversion of ships as a result of the strike.
Thus, at the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, 19 vessels have been diverted – 7 by TTIA and 12 by Maersk-APMT. In addition, Maersk-APMT has reported the loss of 17,000 cargo movements and 1,000 import containers, which could not be unloaded from the vessel scheduled at the start of the strike and are continuing their journey to Northern Europe.
Many of these customers are already requesting alternative routes via Sines (Portugal), Fos (France), and Rotterdam (Belgium), from where they will arrange their own ground transportation. APMT also reports that it has secured alternative capacity for 35,000 weekly movements to four ports other than Algeciras.
In Valencia, 13 ships are anchored awaiting the conclusion of the strike, in addition to 7 other ships that have been diverted. Barcelona has also reported the diversion of 5 ships.
Given these figures, the Minister of Public Works, Iñigo de la Serna, has asked the unions to "call off the strike and thereby put an end to the hemorrhage of permanent ship diversions that is taking place, thus avoiding irreparable damage to the country's economy, the productive fabric and the maintenance of jobs.
The Permanent Information and Coordination Center of the State Secretariat for Security (CEPIC) has reported that in Barcelona, information pickets are controlling and stopping trucks. Initially, they halted the disembarkation of people, vehicles, and trucks, although they have gradually allowed private vehicles and passengers to pass, while blocking the passage of trucks.
In Bilbao, 200 people gathered, throwing firecrackers and carrying banners with slogans alluding to their demands.
