The Berlin cruise ship, operated by FTI Cruises, arrives this Thursday at the Port of Motril with a very special group of passengers. 150 of its 300 occupants are participating in a cycling tour of Spain, organized by the ship's owner and BR Rundfunk, a regional German radio station. The coastal leg begins at the port around 9:00 a.m. and passes through Motril, Torrenueva, and Calahonda, before returning to the Dique dock in the Granada harbor at noon. This 35-kilometer stage has required the collaboration of the Motril Tourist Office, the City Council's Traffic, Transportation, and Public Safety departments, the Port Authority, and the Spanish Tourist Office in Munich.
Meanwhile, the Motril City Council, with co-financing from the Granada Provincial Council and the collaboration of the Port Authority, has organized a series of promotional activities, including a performance by the Flamenco Sabor a Mar group on the dock and a tasting of Torta Real, a traditional Motril sweet, in the Plaza de las Comunidades, next to the Tourist Office. Some cruise passengers will also be taking an excursion to Salobreña and the Ron Montero distillery. To facilitate transportation for passengers wishing to access the center of Motril, a free shuttle bus will be running all morning.
The MS Berlin began its cycling tour on April 27th in Nice and will return to the same French port on May 8th. During this time, it will have visited Valencia, Cartagena, Málaga, Cádiz, Algeciras, Motril, Alicante, and the island of Mahón.
