The Port Authority of the Bay of Cadiz (APBC) will take advantage of its participation in Seatrade Cruise Global 2017, the world's largest cruise trade fair (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), to further position itself as a home port.
From tomorrow, Tuesday, until Thursday, the APBC will advance its strategy to become a home port in the medium term and will do so hand in hand with the Provincial Tourism Board of Cádiz, which is participating in this event for the first time accompanying the port.
The celebration of this edition, the twenty-second consecutive one for the port of Cadiz, coincides with the awarding to the company Pricewaterhouse Coopers Asesores de Negocios, SL of the study of analysis and viability of Cadiz as a cruise base port, in whose financing, in addition to the APBC itself, the Provincial Council of Cadiz and the City Council of Cadiz participate, with 25 percent of the total each.
The award budget amounts to 54,500 euros (plus VAT) and the execution period is 15 and a half weeks from the formalization of the contract, which has not yet occurred and in the partial periods established by the awardee.
As is known, the study would be divided into two phases. The first would be a market study and an assessment of the economic impact, and the second phase would be the development of the plan itself.
During phase 1, global and regional trends will be analyzed, including information on new cruise ship construction and data on the medium- to long-term strategies used in cruise line itinerary and route planning. This information will be used to assess Cádiz's potential to become a homeport.
An economic impact study will also be conducted to inform the destination about the economic contribution that the growth of cruise ships would have in the area.
Phase 2 would consist of developing the plan to convert Cadiz into a home port for cruise ships if Phase 1 is successful.
In addition to sharing information about this project, the APBC will also showcase its infrastructure and services to shipping companies and operators from around the world participating in Seatrade Cruise Global 2017.
