Construction begins on the second Pinnacle-class ship, which will be delivered in November 2018.
Holland America Line celebrated a major construction milestone today with the first steel cutting for the ms Nieuw Statendam. The ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, and the steel block will later be transported to Marghera where the ship will be built. Holland America's Executive Vice President of Fleet Operations, Keith Taylor, was present for the event.
The 99,500-ton vessel – the 15th in the fleet – is the second of Holland America Line's Pinnacle class, and will join its sister ship, the ms Koningsdam, which first sailed in April 2016.
“This is an exciting time for Holland America Line, and the steel cutting at Nieuw Statendam is a milestone that signifies our continued growth and evolution as a company and brand,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “With the Pinnacle class, we have been able to try new things, broaden our horizons, and push boundaries, and we still have some new ideas that will be revealed later.”
This is the 16th ship built for Holland America Line by the Italian shipyard Fincantieri.
