Thomson Cruises has announced the purchase of Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas. The ship will be renamed TUI Discovery 2 and will join the Thomson fleet in May 2017.
The Legend of the Seas was built in 1995 and will be the sister ship of the first Discovery (formerly Splendour of the Seas). It has 1,832 beds and will increase Thomson's fleet to six ships.
The Legend of the Seas will make its final voyage as a Royal Caribbean ship on March 13th of next year.
The TUI Discovery 2 will set sail from a port in the Mediterranean that has not yet been announced and which will become its home port.
The ship, which underwent a major refurbishment in 2013, will offer all-inclusive options at restaurants, bars, and for activities and entertainment. It will also feature an outdoor movie screen by the pool, a rock-climbing wall, a mini-golf course, and an indoor pool and spa.
