Panelship, a naval auxiliary company based in Ponteareas, has made the leap into the cruise ship segment as a supplier of naval outfitting products for shipyards such as STX in France or Fincantieri in Italy, according to company sources yesterday.
Panelship is supplying panels for the new cruise ship under construction at the Saint Nazaire shipyard for the North American shipping company Royal Caribbean, which will be the largest ocean liner in the world, ahead of the Harmony of the Seas.
Panelship has a full workload for the entire year and is focusing on exports. The Ponteareas plant has the capacity to manufacture approximately 1,000 square meters of panels per day. It also has facilities in Mexico.
This news comes after it was revealed on May 19 that thePonteareas-based company had been awarded a €3.5 million contract by Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) to construct the interior of an offshore accommodation platform in Tampico, in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The company won the project from Dragados Offshore, part of the ACS group, to carry out the work.
