Cunard Line, the company with the longest tradition and a history forged over 175 years of experience in the cruise industry, commemorated its journey in the world of cruises by celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. For this reason, all of the company's ships sent a special congratulatory message to Buckingham Palace.
The Queen is the only person to have been present at the launch of all three Queen Elizabeth ships (the first in 1938, the QE2 in 1967, and the Queen Elizabeth in 2010). The first of these was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II in 1938 when she was 12 years old, but, due to World War II, it did not enter service until 1940. Six years later, it made its maiden voyage.
In 1947, at the age of 21, she christened the Caronia, which would become the most luxurious yacht of its time. In 1967, the Queen Elizabeth was unveiled in a ceremony where the Queen cut the umbilical cord using the same golden scissors that her mother and grandmother used.
On the 150th anniversary of the Cunard Line, Queen Elizabeth II sailed on the Queen Elizabeth 2, exactly 23 years after she had launched the ship herself. It was also the first time the Queen had traveled on a Cunard with other passengers.
