The Port Authority of Valencia will build a cruise terminal for large-capacity ships, carrying between 3,000 and 4,000 passengers, as part of its strategy to boost cruise tourism.
The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), Aurelio Martínez, has outlined his commitment to cruise tourism, aiming to reach 600,000 cruise passengers by 2020 and thus promote Valencia as a home port for cruises and not just a port of call.
Martínez has stated that the new facility may be available for the 2018 high season.
The investment will be included in the APV's 2017 business plan and during the year the tender specifications will be issued with the aim of designing a first module that can serve a large-capacity vessel.
If the need for another module is subsequently identified, the appropriate extensions would be made to simultaneously accommodate two large-capacity ships.
In the last month, he has met on this issue with the regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, the deputy mayor of Valencia City Council, Joan Calabuig, and the director of Tourism Valencia, Antoni Bernabé.
