The port of Palma is preparing to become a home port for the world's largest cruise ships and is adapting its facilities for this purpose.
It currently serves as a home port for medium-sized ships whose passengers begin and end their cruise journey in the city, with the consequent economic benefit for the island.
To this end, and with the aim of managing the arrival and departure of passengers from large cruise ships, the Balearic Islands Port Authority will expand and renovate Maritime Station No. 6 in the port of Palma, whose works are currently in the bidding phase.
A cruise ship over 360 meters long can accommodate more than 7,000 people, so the new terminal is essential for shipping companies and concessionary businesses to provide services to passengers and service providers. Furthermore, each ship using Palma as its home port doubles the number of passengers per port call, since passengers embark and disembark on the same ship on the same day.
