The Norwegian Joy leads Norwegian Cruise Lines' expansion in "the world's fastest-growing cruise market.".

The international cruise line Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has revealed the English and Chinese names for the world's first cruise ship built specifically for the Chinese market. The most innovative ship ever designed exclusively for Chinese guests now has a name: Norwegian Joy (joy meaning joy in English), and in Chinese it will be called 喜悦号 (Xǐ Yuè Hào). The name Norwegian Joy highlights the experience the ship will offer: 尽享喜悦海上乐园, a promise that guests will "Experience paradise at sea."

“After closely analyzing the Chinese cruise market for several years, we wanted to clearly define what we would offer our guests on this spectacular ship,” explained Frank Del Rio, Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. “The Norwegian Joy will provide the same sense of freedom and flexibility as the rest of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, but will offer resort-style vacation experiences and services designed with the needs of Chinese guests in mind.”.

With a capacity of 3,900 guests, the new Breakaway Plus-class ship will make its debut in China in the summer of 2017. The Norwegian Joy has been specifically designed for the Chinese traveler, with onboard dining and experiences tailored to the unique vacation preferences of Chinese guests. To achieve this exclusive customization for the Chinese market, Norwegian Cruise Line collaborated with local partners and experts on the country's culture and preferences.

The experience of a high-quality cruise specially designed for modern Chinese travelers includes everything from first-class entertainment to a wide, specially selected range of high-quality international cuisine, exclusive duty-free luxury shops, and a new range of amazing onboard activities never before seen at sea.

“Chinese guests will discover a level of service, cuisine, entertainment, and shopping experience aboard the Norwegian Joy that is unique and unprecedented in the Chinese market,” said David Herrera, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of China. “With the Norwegian Joy, we will offer our Chinese customers a superior product and introduce a new level of innovation and excellence to what will soon be the world’s second-largest cruise market.”.

Additional details, including the ship's departure port, accommodations, restaurants, and entertainment options, will be revealed in the coming months.

In addition to the ship's name, NCL has also unveiled a new Chinese name and logo, exclusively for the mainland China market. The company name will be represented by the characters 诺唯真(NuòWéiZhēn), which translates as a "promising, exclusive, and authentic" cruise line, perfectly reflecting the company's dedication to delivering a premium product in China. Beyond exceptional entertainment, high-quality dining, and accommodations, Norwegian Cruise Line is renowned for its unique cruising style known as Freestyle Cruising. This offers guests the freedom and flexibility to dine, shop, and enjoy top-notch entertainment whenever they choose, in a fun, relaxed, and energetic atmosphere. Only on Norwegian can guests enjoy their vacation at their own pace, without fixed dining times, with a wide range of dining options and a wealth of award-winning shows.

To support NCL's expansion in China, the company has opened offices in Beijing (Guomao CDB) and Shanghai (Xintiandi) to support the company's three portfolio brands: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

With a fleet of 14 cruise ships worldwide, Norwegian Cruise Line has been chosen, for the eighth consecutive year, as “Europe’s Leading Cruise Line” at the prestigious World Travel Awards, for the third time as “Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Line” and, for the fourth consecutive year, as “World’s Leading Large Cruise Line”.
