Representatives from the most important US shipping companies, media, businesspeople and authorities have gathered at the promotional event held at the Spanish consular residence.
Nearly one hundred tourism professionals from Florida gathered tonight - early morning in Spain - at the residence of the Spanish Consul General in Miami, on Granada Boulevard, which hosted the event called 'Next Destination, Malaga: Gateway to Andalusia', which showcased the destination's offering as a gateway to Southern Europe.
The event was attended by executives from major cruise lines operating in the United States, such as Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Silversea, and MSC, as well as representatives from cruise associations, airlines, travel agencies, and tour operators. Also present were the mayor of Miami, Tomás Regalado; and the directors of the city's port and airport, Juan Kuryla and Emilio González, respectively.
Furthermore, this promotional event was attended by a large number of journalists from well-known media outlets such as Telemundo, The Economist, Radio Caracol, The Miami Herald, Diario Las Américas, and Nuevo Herald, among others. They all had the opportunity to sample Andalusian cuisine and enjoy a flamenco performance.
During the event, the central act of the action that the Port Authority of Malaga, the City Tourism and Promotion Area, Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, Tourism and Sport of Andalusia and Cruceros Malaga are jointly developing in the USA these days, the Consul General of Spain in Miami, Cándido Creis, highlighted the great transformation that the city of Malaga has registered in recent years, which is now one of the most dynamic destinations in Europe.
Several Spanish companies, including Mahou-San Miguel, Cinco Jotas, Cardenal Mendoza, Marqués de Riscal, La Española, and Inés Rosales, sponsored the event to promote Spanish products. There was also a significant presence of products bearing the 'Sabor a Málaga' designation of origin, which are commercially available in Miami.
The Malaga delegation is also holding several institutional meetings, with the aim of finding new ways of collaborating with both the City Council and the Port of Miami (sister port of the Port of Malaga since 2008).
Specifically, the Malaga delegation held a working meeting hours before the event with the vice president of Royal Caribbean, Juan Trescastro, to whom they presented the joint strategy implemented by the different administrations to help Malaga regain the position it held for this important company before the economic crisis.
Next appointment: Seatrade Global
This action will help strengthen the presence of the port and the destination at the upcoming Seatrade Global international trade fair, the leading event for the cruise industry, which will also be attended by institutions and private companies related to the cruise sector in Malaga. The event will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from March 14 to 17, 2016.
