Meyer Turku's shipyard has completed the construction of the first ship created entirely under the ownership of the Meyer family.
The Mein Schiff 5 is a sister ship to the Mein Schiff 4, built last spring. The new vessel, the Mein Schiff 5, is progressing on schedule. Its departure for port and transfer from dry dock to the pier marks a transition from the hull construction phase to the outfitting phase.
Ferdinand Strohmeyer, Vice President of Operations at TUI Cruises, and Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku, were primarily responsible for this transfer.
“Step by step, thanks to the excellent work of our team, the ship has begun to resemble a real vessel. Mein Schiff 4, its sister ship, has been well received by our guests—meanwhile, we are introducing numerous improvements to the new ship to further enhance our guests' experience. I am confident that, once again, we will be able to maintain a wonderful ship that will stand the test of time,” announced Jan Meyer.
When completed, the Mein Schiff 5 will be 295 meters long and 36 meters wide, and its design and construction have been carried out with energy efficiency in mind. The vessel will have 1,267 cabins, approximately 90% of which will be outside cabins and 82% of which will have their own veranda. The ship's crew will number approximately 1,000. In addition, it will include a theater, a swimming pool, sports facilities, and a wide variety of restaurants.
The construction of the Mein Schiff 5 is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.
