The Port of A Coruña continues its positive trend in the cruise sector and begins the year with forecasts that match or could even surpass the results of what was the third-best year in the port's history. Throughout 2015, a total of 140,417 passengers arrived in the city, distributed across 92 port calls, and for 2016, 100 dockings and around 140,000 tourists are expected.
The 2015 results represent a further step in the Port Authority's commitment to boosting traffic that generates significant benefits for the service sector and serves as a catalyst for projecting A Coruña's image as a tourist destination. The increase compared to 2014, when 129,597 passengers were recorded, amounts to 8%. Among the year's highlights were the first port calls of the Britannia, the flagship of the current British cruise fleet, and the Anthem of the Seas.
Currently, the Port of A Coruña holds first place on the Cantabrian-Atlantic coast in terms of the number of port calls, and everything indicates that it will maintain this leadership throughout 2016. This year will see the return of double and multiple port calls, as well as the docking of the largest ships on the market.
The upcoming cruise ship calls scheduled for the winter months include four, among them the Amadea on March 30th. This will be the Amadea's first call at the Port of A Coruña, inaugurating a list that includes other ships such as the Mein Schiff V and the Costa Pacifica, demonstrating the effectiveness of the marketing plans undertaken by the Port Authority to attract new cruise lines and routes. In addition, the impressive Britannia and the Mein Schiff IV will also return. Regarding the Port Authority's planned activities for this year, it will maintain ongoing contact with major cruise lines, attend key industry events such as Cruise Shipping in Miami in March, and pursue strategic alliances with other Atlantic ports.
