Regional deputies are working to promote cruise ship traffic

Regional deputies Mónica Meroño, Domingo Segado, and Víctor Martínez, all members of the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly, met with the President of the Port of Cartagena to inform him of the parliamentary group's decision to present a motion urging the Regional Government to work jointly with the Port Authority to promote cruise traffic, with the goal of making the Port of Cartagena a home port as soon as possible.

President Antonio Sevilla expressed his gratitude for this decision, emphasizing that the Port of Cartagena and the Region of Murcia are working in the right direction. According to Sevilla, the region will soon have the Corvera International Airport and a high-speed rail connection (AVE), and both transport infrastructures will be highly beneficial to this shared objective. 

"The next step is to get a cruise line to operate 'interporting' services in Cartagena, which involves a cruise ship traveling a route along the Mediterranean coast, with passengers embarking and disembarking at various ports."

Starting September 21st, during the Carthaginians and Romans Festival, the Port of Cartagena will welcome three large cruise ships carrying nearly 10,000 passengers and approximately 5,000 crew members of various nationalities. One of them, the Norwegian Epic, will make its maiden call in Cartagena that day, docking at the Cruise Terminal on the Alfonso XII Wharf. The other two ships, the Britannia, will dock at the San Pedro Wharf, and the Ryndam at the La Curra Wharf, thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Navy. As in previous years, the Port Authority will provide passengers with 16 buses offering continuous shuttle service between the docking points and the Plaza Héroes de Cavite, in both directions, throughout the duration of their port calls.
