Today, the order from the Ministry of Public Works was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) appointing Joan Gual de Torrella Guasp as the new president of the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB), replacing Alberto Pons Fernández, who is stepping down from his position.
Born in Palma de Mallorca in 1956, he was part of the Board of Directors of the APB as a member from 2006 to 2013 representing the Cambra de Comerç de Mallorca, an entity to which he has been closely linked for the last two decades and of which he was president from 2006 to 2013.
In the business field he was the founder and general manager of the company MENU Mallorca from 1979 to 2014.
He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Cercle d'Economia de Mallorca - of which he was a promoter and vice-president - as well as a member of the Consell Econòmic i Social of the Universitat de les Illes Balears since 2006.
He also chaired the Chambers of Commerce of the Islands of Europe INSULER from 2009 to 2014. He has held various positions on the Higher Council of Chambers of Commerce of Spain - where he chaired the Tourism Commission - the Association of
Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce ASCAME and the International Chamber of Commerce ICC.
He was also a promoter and president of the Bonaire-Santo Sepulcro Merchants Association, the Balearic Islands Young Entrepreneurs Association, and the Spanish Federation of Young Entrepreneurs. He was a member of the board of directors of CAEB, a member of the executive committee of the European Association of Young Entrepreneurs YES FOR EUROPE, a member of the Mallorca Tourism Board for seven years, the Balearic Islands commissioner in the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion, a member of the territorial council of ENDESA Balears, and a member of the board of trustees of the University-Business Foundation (FUE).
