Passengers will be able to enjoy the international singing competition as spectators or contestants, on board all ships in the fleet.
Princess Cruises brings the excitement and spectacle of television's most popular international singing competition, The Voice of the Ocean, to life throughout the cruise, featuring live auditions and rehearsal sessions with mentors. Enjoy three coaches and the famous "I want you on my team!" moment. At the grand finale, the audience will choose the winner after watching the finalists perform live.
The “Voice of the Ocean” contest will be based on:
• Trial karaoke sessions at the beginning of each cruise, for those 16 and over. There will be two audition opportunities during the karaoke set up in one of the ship's lounges or showroom. The contestants will be chosen by the audience and cruise staff.
• Selected singers will be assigned a coach who will meet with them during the cruise to rehearse with Princess's band and backup singers. The mentors will be singers from Princess musicals.
The Voice of the Ocean show will be hosted by the Head of Entertainment. The gala will take place on the last night of the cruise. It will feature up to nine contestants and will be held in the Princess Theatre for a VIP audience that includes three high-profile coaches. Just like the hit TV show, the trio of coaches will listen to the performers without seeing them, and if they like them, they will turn their chairs to say, “I want you on my team.” Once the teams are chosen, the coaches will each select a finalist. From the three finalists, the audience will vote for the winner, who will be awarded a trophy and, most importantly, the title of The Voice of the Ocean.
“We know that The Voice of the Ocean will be a huge hit with Princess guests, both those performing on stage and those in the audience,” said Adrian Fischer, Vice President of Entertainment for Princess Cruises. “We want guests to feel like they’re part of the TV show, so the event will be held on a high-tech set created almost identically to the television competition’s set, including the red swivel chairs and the live Princess band with backup singers. We’re thrilled to discover and nurture talent by offering guests a new way to express their love of music and entertainment.”
The singing competition will debut aboard the Regal Princess in October, followed by the Royal Princess and the Caribbean Princess in November. An additional eight of the company's ships will offer The Voice of the Ocean between January and May 2016.
This new alliance is part of Princess's "Come Back Like New" slogan promise, designed to elevate the guest experience and create enriching moments and lifelong memories.
