Study on cruise tourism in Andalusia:
Their rating of their stay at the destination also rises, reaching 9.3 out of 10
The average daily expenditure of cruise ship tourists in 2014 reached €41.60, €9.70 more than the previous year. Dining and shopping accounted for over 75% of this spending at the destination, followed by excursions and visits to museums and monuments. This represents an expenditure of €15.8 million in the Bay of Cádiz area, where the Port received 381,285 cruise passengers.
This data comes from the 2014 Annual Report on Cruise Tourism in Andalusia, prepared by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Regional Government, based on 883 personal interviews with tourists and supplemented with data from secondary sources such as the World Tourism Organization, the International Association of Cruise Lines and State Ports.
The report highlights the importance of the Port of the Bay of Cadiz, along with the Port of Malaga, in this type of traffic in the region, since together they concentrate almost all of the cruise traffic in Andalusia and in 2014 they ranked sixth and fifth nationally in the number of passengers received.
The document highlights the average rating given by cruise tourists for their stay in Andalusia, which reaches 9.3 points out of 10 and grows 0.1 points compared to 2013, continuing the positive evolution that this variable has shown in recent years.
As the report demonstrates, the cruise industry has continued to grow in recent years, proving resilient to situations that have generated significant uncertainty in the tourism sector. The Cruise Lines International Association estimates that the number of passengers will reach 23 million worldwide in 2015.
In the Bay of Cadiz, cruise traffic has grown by 29 percent in passengers and 12.5 percent in port calls in the first half of this year, by which time a new record is expected to be broken in both tourists and number of ships.
