Nearly 3,500 tourists, from 43 different nationalities, will arrive in Vigo by sea today. They will travel aboard the giant 'Explorer of the Seas', on its third stop in the Port of Vigo.
The ship, belonging to the Royal Caribbean cruise line, docked at the Maritime Station at 10:00 AM, arriving from Southampton, Great Britain, and is scheduled to depart at 5:00 PM, at which time it will set sail for Agadir, Morocco. Of the 3,490 passengers on board, 2,475 are British nationals.
Measuring 311 meters in length and 48 meters in beam, the 'Explorer of the Seas' was built at the Kvaerner Masa shipyard in Turku, Finland. Its maiden voyage took place in October 2000 and was christened by American athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
It has a total of 15 decks and can accommodate 3,835 passengers and 1,185 crew members, in addition to offering 1,557 staterooms. As for leisure options, the Explorer of the Seas features a rock-climbing wall with ocean views, a basketball court, an ice-skating rink, and a mini-golf course, as well as three swimming pools with sun decks, an adults-only area, six jacuzzis, a state-of-the-art gym, and the relaxing VitalitySM Spa, with over a hundred treatments available to cruisers. On the Royal Promenade, passengers can enjoy parades, dances, and shopping promotions. Furthermore, the Royal Caribbean ship is known for its spacious public areas, upgraded staterooms, and spectacular three-story restaurants.
For food lovers, the 'Explorer of the Seas' offers various free options including Windjammer Café, Jade Sushi and Asian culinary fusion and the Café Promenade to enjoy coffee, cakes/snacks, in addition to the Italian restaurant Portofino, or the possibility of holding informal meals and snacks at Johnny Rockets and the Ben & Jerry's ice cream parlor.

As the cruise line itself announces on its website, this year the Explorer of the Seas will have completed its renovation and this will bring more innovative features at sea such as the FlowRider surf simulator, a theater with 3-D movies, all new cabins including new virtual balconies and new dining experiences.
