Royal Caribbean orders a fourth Quantum-class ship

Royal Caribbean Cruises announced yesterday that it has reached an agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to build a fourth Quantum-class ship, which will be delivered in 2019.

“Today’s announcement reflects the success of the first two Quantum-class ships,” said Richard D. Fain, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “We have received an incredible response from both travel agents and passengers, which has led us to order a revolutionary new ship from our partners at Meyer Werft.”

“The fourth ship in the Quantum class will be a pioneer in its intelligent design and will revolutionize the concept of vacations,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. “Royal Caribbean International is synonymous with adventure, and the ship’s amenities will continue to challenge and exceed expectations of what a cruise should be.”

Based on current orders, the planned capital investments for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 are $1.6 billion, $2.3 billion, $0.4 billion, $2.4 billion and $1.3 billion, respectively.

Capacity growth for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 is expected to be 5.5%, 6.3%, 3.1%, 3.9%, and 6.5%, respectively. These figures do not include potential future vessel sales or additions.

The order is subject to compliance with the usual conditions, including financing.
