The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) has signed a collaboration agreement with the University of Palma, May 4, 2015. The president of the APB, Alberto Pons, and the rector of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Llorenç Huguet, today signed a collaboration agreement to develop joint programs and studies, as well as exchanges and cooperation in the fields of teaching, student training, outreach, and research. Among the areas to be developed, the UIB's SmartCity/SmartDestination interdisciplinary working group, in collaboration with the Palma Local Police, is developing a pioneering application, Tourism Emergency QR, which will improve emergency response for cruise ship tourists who voluntarily wish to participate. The platform creates a self-contained QR code with encrypted information that will incorporate the personal and health data of those who wish to share it, for use in emergency situations, thus improving the capacity and effectiveness of the assistance provided.
The three institutions involved in the agreement have expressed their strong support for the collaboration between the UIB and the APB. Also present at the event were Francisco Mas, Innovation and Development Coordinator for the Palma Local Police; Dr. Bartolomé Alorda, Professor in the Department of Physics and Coordinator of the UIB's Interdisciplinary SmartCity/SmartDestination Working Group; and Dr. Jordi Llabrés, Vice-Rector for Innovation and Transfer at the UIB.
