Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, will dock at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz for maintenance and remodeling work, which will provide employment for 600 people at the shipyard.
According to sources at Navantia speaking to Europa Press, the ship will arrive at the Cádiz shipyard, where it will remain until May 17th. The work that the Cádiz shipyard will carry out consists primarily of logistical support for the ship, including the loading of materials and the removal and management of waste.
The ship's dry-docking work includes painting, steelwork, anchor and chain repairs, and machinery maintenance, among other tasks. Maintenance will also be performed on the ship's azimuth control systems, piping, stabilizer fins, and propellers. Additionally, hydrodynamic improvements will be made to the hull, along with other minor work.
These tasks involve work for about 600 people from the shipyard, since it must be taken into account that Royal Caribbean has more staff hired to carry out its work, such as the remodeling of the cabins, carpeting, furniture, etc.
Cruise Week:
A total of 20 cruise ships, with a combined capacity of 50,000 people (passengers and crew), will be calling at the port of Cádiz. Last Monday, May 4th, five cruise ships were in port, carrying almost 9,000 passengers.
The Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz (APBC) announced in a statement that five ships will call simultaneously at the port of Cádiz on Monday, May 4th, and again on May 11th. Additionally, three ships are scheduled to be in port simultaneously on Friday, May 8th.
Of particular note are the nearly 9,000 cruise passengers expected today and the 9,200 expected on the 11th. Three of these ships are also arriving at the port of Cádiz for the first time: the 'Viking Star', 'Explorer of the Seas', and 'Le Soleal'.
The APBC adds that, if the forecasts are met, the month of May 2015, with 50 announced calls, will break the record for the number of cruise ships and passengers in a single month.
