Five ocean liners are expected at the same time on Monday the 4th and 11th
The Port of Cadiz will receive 20 cruise ship calls from Monday, May 4th to 11th, with capacity to accommodate around 50,000 people, including passengers and crew.
In eight days, two days (Monday the 4th and Monday the 11th) will have five simultaneous ship calls, and another two (Tuesday and Friday) will have three. Two cruise ships will be in port on Wednesday, and on the remaining days, except for Thursday when none are expected, there will be one.
Nearly 9,000 cruise passengers are expected on the 4th and 9,200 on the 11th.
Three of these ships are also arriving at the Port of Cádiz for the first time: the Viking Star, Explorer of the Seas, and Le Soleal.
If forecasts hold true, May 2015, with 50 announced port calls, will break the record for the number of cruise ships and passengers in a single month.
This same month will also mark another milestone, with the arrival on Monday the 18th of the Anthem of the Seas, measuring 347 meters in length and with a capacity for 4,184 passengers and 2,384 crew members, one of the largest in the world and the largest ever docked at the port of Cádiz.
It's important to remember the socioeconomic impact that cruise ship traffic has on the surrounding area. It's estimated that the average expenditure per passenger per day is around €60, and that of the crew, €23.
