With approximately 5,400 people on board, the 'Anthem of the Seas' will visit the Vigo terminal up to ten times throughout this season.
With a length of 350 meters, it has 16 decks, a gross tonnage of 167,800 tons, capacity to carry 4,180 passengers on board in double occupancy and 2,090 cabins.
It features the first open-sea skydiving simulator, a tower crane that transports passengers to a height of over 90 meters, as well as various sports and entertainment complexes.
It features the largest and most modern cabins in Royal Caribbean history, including the industry's first virtual balconies.
The Port of Vigo will receive around 5,400 people today - including passengers and crew - who will arrive aboard the 'Anthem of the Seas', on its inaugural stop in our city.
Arriving from Southampton, Great Britain, the 'Anthem of the Seas' reached the Maritime Station at 9:45 a.m. and is scheduled to depart for Gijón at approximately 6:00 p.m. During its stay in our city, it carried a total of 3,605 passengers (2,874 British) and 1,771 crew members.
On the occasion of this first stop of the 'Anthem of the Seas' in the Vigo dock, the President of the Vigo Port Authority, Ignacio López-Chaves, accompanied by various authorities, participated, as is tradition, in the exchange of plaques with the Captain of the ship, Claus Andre Andersen, after which the delegation visited the new ship owned by the Royal Caribbean cruise company.
First port of call
Vigo was the first port in the world to receive the ship, following its inauguration in Great Britain. Belonging to the new 'Quantum Class' and considered the ship of the future, the 'Anthem of the Seas' is also the second largest in the world. It boasts groundbreaking features, such as the first skydiving simulator at sea, a observation crane that transports passengers to a height of over 90 meters where they can enjoy breathtaking views, and state-of-the-art entertainment areas, including the largest indoor sports and entertainment complexes at sea with bumper cars, ice skating, and much more.
In addition, it boasts the largest and most modern staterooms in Royal Caribbean history, including the industry's first virtual balconies. Passengers can also enjoy the extensive culinary offerings of its 18 restaurants, as well as its shows and performances in the Music Hall, Royal Theater, and Royal Esplanade.
Maiden voyage
The 'Anthem of the Seas' has officially joined the Royal Caribbean fleet, which now totals 23 ships. Royal Caribbean Cruises President and CEO Richard D. Fain officially received the new ship from the managing partner of the Meyer Werft shipyard at a ceremony held on April 10 in Bremerhaven, Germany.
The 'Anthem of the Seas' will be based in Southampton, UK, until October, from where it will visit the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. In November, it will move to New York. Cape Liberty will be its home port, from where it will regularly sail to Bermuda, the Caribbean, and Canada and New England.
The ship was inaugurated in Southampton last Monday, April 20, and its godmother, travel agent Emma Wilby, was in charge of christening it at an event attended by around 1,300 people from all over the world.
The 'Anthem of the Seas' will visit the Port of Vigo up to ten times this season. In total, it will bring approximately 54,000 people to Vigo.
