Two Holland America cruise ships, the Amsterdam and the Eurodam, brought 3,500 American passengers to Cartagena today, who enjoyed the city on a perfect spring day.
This morning, two cruise ships from the prestigious American cruise line Holland America Line docked in the Port of Cartagena. The Eurodam, arriving very early at 7:00 a.m. from Malaga, was already attracting tourists by 8:00 a.m., photographing the buildings in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (City Hall Square) and Calle Mayor (Main Street). This cruise ship brought 2,104 American passengers, who will depart at 4:00 p.m. for Valencia, their next port of call. The Eurodam will return to Cartagena later this month, on April 28th.
The second cruise ship, the Amsterdam, entered the port at 10:00 a.m. from the Italian port of Civitavecchia (Rome), and will depart at 6:00 p.m. for the port of Malaga. This ship carried 1,380 passengers who were surprised to find the large tents and crowds of the Fortress Route on the dock.
Holland America Line has been calling at the Port of Cartagena with its cruise ships for years. Specifically, in 2015, it will make 10 calls throughout the season.
To dock these two cruise ships simultaneously at the terminal—the Amsterdam, 237 meters long, and the Eurodam, 285 meters long—it was necessary to coordinate the captains of both vessels to moor them with a 25-meter separation between their bows, and with their bow mooring lines crossed. This allowed the cruise terminal to reach its maximum length capacity while ensuring secure berthing.
