Viking Ocean Cruises celebrates the delivery of its first ocean-going ship

Viking Cruises' Star will be christened on Norway's Constitution Day in Bergen, Norway

Viking Ocean Cruises®today announced the delivery of Viking Star, marking the company's official entry into the ocean cruising industry. The delivery ceremony took place on March 28, the day the ship was unveiled at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy. On April 11, Viking Star will depart from Istanbul and sail across the Mediterranean and Atlantic to Bergen, Norway, where it will be officially christened on May 17.

“This has been an extraordinary journey, and I am grateful to the entire Viking and Fincantieri team who have worked tirelessly to turn our vision into reality,” said Torstein Hagen, president of Viking Cruises. “With the Viking Star’s maiden voyage and christening now on the horizon, we are ready to bring our ocean-crossing onboard experiences to life.”

Classified by Cruise Critic as a "small ship," the modern Viking Star has a gross tonnage of 47,800 and features 465 cabins accommodating up to 930 passengers. Its scale allows direct access to most ports, ensuring easy and efficient embarkation and disembarkation. Filled with light and featuring modern Scandinavian décor, the ship was designed by experienced architects and marine engineers, including the same interior design team responsible for Viking Cruises' award-winning fleet of larger ships.

Viking Star is one of three ocean-going cruise ships on order; the two remaining ships, Viking Sea and Viking Sky, are currently under construction.

Guests of Viking Ocean Cruises will enjoy itineraries exclusively designed to showcase the destinations they visit, with a complimentary excursion in each port and an onboard cultural exchange program that includes university professors, local speakers, and interactive demonstrations.
