The renovated MSC Cruises ship will remain in the Canary Islands during the 2014/2015 winter season.
The port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria welcomed the MSC Armonia last Saturday, the company's first ship to undergo the Renaissance Program – valued at €200 million – which has added 193 new cabins and improved comfort levels, entertainment areas, and onboard services. The MSC Armonia will remain in the Canary Islands during the 2014/2015 winter season.
The Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria celebrated the arrival of the MSC Armonia with a ceremony and luncheon on board the ship, attended by the President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APLP), Luis Ibarra, representatives of the municipal and island authorities, as well as the Managing Director of MSC Cruises in Spain, Emiliano González, who stated:
“MSC Cruises has a strong connection with the ports of the Canary Islands in general and the Port of Las Palmas in particular, as demonstrated by our extensive history of embarkations. Our firm confidence in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is more evident than ever with the arrival and stay of our refurbished ship, MSC Armonia, in the archipelago, with weekly departures from its capital, so that Canary Island travelers can enjoy an even more appealing product.”
MSC Armonia was the first ship in the MSC Cruises fleet to undergo the ambitious Renaissance Program. The vessel entered dry dock at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri on August 31 and remained there for 11 weeks before resuming service on November 17. Following its extraordinary inaugural Mediterranean cruise, MSC Armonia will be based in the Canary Islands during the 2014/2015 winter season, demonstrating MSC Cruises' recognition of the archipelago's potential. Thanks to the additional 24 meters of length gained during the refurbishment, MSC Armonia now has the capacity to carry 2,680 passengers, with 193 additional cabins (plus another 59 new crew cabins).
The ship also now features new areas for the Baby Club built in collaboration with the Chicco brand, as well as new Mini Club, Young Club, Junior Club and Teen Club, in addition to new playrooms and LEGO® activities for families and children.
