The Port of Cartagena welcomed the refurbished MSC Armonia, a ship from MSC Cruises, the leading Mediterranean cruise company, after undergoing extensive refurbishment in recent months as part of the company's Renaissance Program. Following its stop in Cartagena, the newly renovated MSC Armonia continued its voyage to the Canary Islands, where it will complete its maiden voyage and remain for the entire winter season.
During the welcome ceremony, held at the Port of Cartagena aboard the MSC Armonia and attended by representatives of the Port Authority and other local authorities, the Managing Director of MSC Cruises in Spain, Emiliano González, stated: “At MSC Cruises, we highly value the efforts undertaken by the Port Authority in recent years to improve and modernize the infrastructure for cruise ships. Furthermore, Cartagena has great potential as a year-round port of call thanks to its extensive cultural and heritage offerings.”.
MSC Armonia has become the first ship in MSC Cruises' Lirica class to undergo the €200 million Renaissance Program, which has added 193 new cabins and enhanced comfort, entertainment areas, and onboard services. After departing from the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy on November 17, the refurbished MSC Armonia embarked on an extraordinary inaugural Mediterranean cruise from Genoa to the Canary Islands, where it will remain until April 2015, offering weekly itineraries to the Canary Islands and Morocco.
