The Port of Cartagena is preparing for the busiest week of the year for cruise ships: for six days, six ships will be received with more than 6,000 passengers and almost 3,000 crew members.
This week is shaping up to be the best week of the year for cruises: six ships are expected to call in just six days. The first to arrive will be the Silver Spirit, from Silversea Cruises. This super-luxury ship, only five years old, will arrive in Cartagena on Tuesday the 11th with more than 500 passengers on board.
On Wednesday, October 12th, the Aurora cruise ship, from P&O Cruises, will arrive with 1,800 passengers, coming from Palma de Mallorca and with its next stop in Gibraltar. On Thursday the 13th, it's the turn of the Europa 2 cruise ship, from Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten, the company's most modern and luxurious vessel with 251 cabins, all suites. This modern cruise ship will bring 500 passengers on board.
The Thomson Dream cruise ship, from Thomson Island Cruises, one of the companies most committed to Cartagena, is scheduled to call on Friday the 14th. This ship will arrive in port with 1,200 cruise passengers on board. Finally, on Sunday, November 16, a double call is scheduled: the cruise ships Aidavita, from Aida Cruises, and Riviera, from Oceania Cruises, each carrying 1,200 passengers.
More than 6,000 passengers will arrive in the city over a six-day period, representing diverse nationalities, primarily British, German, and American. Interestingly, all of their itineraries will be east to west, meaning they will be sailing from the Mediterranean Sea to other areas such as the Caribbean or the Canary Islands.
From January to the end of October of this year, the Port of Cartagena has received 88 cruise ship calls, bringing a total of 118,000 passengers.
